Stretch marks 😱

Hi guys. One of the most unwanted things for me during my pregnancy is STRETCH-MARKS! I truly hope not to get any this time around as I luckily avoided to get them during my first pregnancy.

Although they say this is partially genetic and very different from person to person I thought I’d give some tips on how I try to avoid them as much as possible.

1.       Firstly what you need to know is that stretchmarks come easier if you have dry skin, so keeping your self well-hydrated during pregnancy is super-duper important. You really do need extra water during pregnancy anyway so please do make sure you drink a lot of water. I always keep a water bottle with me and try to drink around 3 liter water a day. And also remember, the more water you drink the less water is retained in your body and that reduces the swelling from water retention. And of course it keeps your skin hydrated and reduces risk for stretchmarks.

2.       No need to say but of course if you manage your weight gain and don’t gain too much too fast that will also help to prevent the stretchmarks. But that’s of course easier said than done so let’s move on 😂.

3.       Make sure you eat well and you eat food that is good for your skin. For example always include berries, fruit, vegetables, nuts and salmon in your diet. Remember antioxidants, vitamins, zinc and fatty acids are all very good for your skin and for the entire pregnancy.🍓🍒

4.       Now to the one of the most important notes on this. MOISTURISE! The stretch the skin is going through during a pregnancy is a huge pressure on the skin so please please make sure you moisturize your skin. I am using 3 kind of oils (during my first pregnancy I only used 2 but added a third one second time around just to be on the safe side).

a. I use raw coconut oil and I use it when I come out of the shower. I make sure before drying myself with a towel (basically still in the shower before going out) I soak myself with coconut oil all over my body and wait a little bit before putting on any towel to make sure the oil is absorbed into the skin. This is the coconut oil that I use.

b. I use almond oil (I also use almond oil for Nilia’s hair) every night before going to bed. This almond oil was brought to me from India but you can order it online as well.

c. I use Elemis Camellia body oil every morning which apparently was Victoria Beckham’s favorite during her pregnancies to avoid stretchmarks. You can order this online or shop at spas where Elemis products are available.

So again, of course I can’t say this will make sure 100% that you’ll avoid stretchmarks but I am 100% sure it will help avoiding them as much as possible.

And if you did get stretch marks during your pregnancy just remind yourself those marks are a reminder of a miracle that grew inside of you ❤️

Hope you guys found this helpful.
